Mummy Quiz

Before my child can fall asleep I have to…
Getting boogie prepared for her sleep is been daddy's "thing" since about a year ago and I rarely put her to sleep now. Feeling guilty as I am writing this. But...we always watch a couple of Peppa Pig episodes. We give each other kisses and cuddle before i lay her in the cot and tuck her in but daddy reads her a story - so he is the one that sees her last.
One thing I do that makes my child laugh is…
Boogie loves being tickled and she will even take my hand and direct me to whatever she would love being tickled next. She loves running around through the house chasing daddy and I and she is doing all that naked! Hahaha. To tell you the truth boogie is a happy child and you can always hear her giggle.
One thing my child does that makes me laugh is…
Boogie makes me laugh all the time! But I do love when she says things like :"Silly mummy" , "careful mummy" , "what you doing mummy", and love the way she is walking through the house pushing her little shopping trolley saying "going shopping now..." whilst holding her little bag on her shoulder.
I’m more lenient than I thought I would be about…
Routine. Since I was pregnant I was convince that we will need a routine for our little one. I still feel that if boogie doesn't have a proper sleep next day she will be grumpy. The other thing it is Eating - I promised myself that I will never force my daughter to eat anything or all her food from her plate. So that is why I approached baby led weaning with boogie. And she loves it. I strongly believe that is she is hungry she will eat but if she is not she will give it a skip.
One of the most ridiculous things I’ve said as a parent is…
Ah...boogie cached me in bathroom changing my absorbant and when she asked me what it was I said that "it's mummy's nappy" yes I did say that! To which she asked "so you put it on and walk?" and I answered "Yes". I know I do feel ashamed...argh...
The best rule in our house is…
We don't have any rules! But we always eat together at the same table on Sundays and mummy will try to bake something sweet as well!
Sometimes I wish I could snap my fingers and make my child…
Potty trained! It is a struggle and it seems like we will never ever get there! She is so good at other things but not when it comes to using the potty!

So these are my answers “Mummy Quiz”! I responded to this after reading Cafe Bebe post and thought I should share with you my quiz as well.

SAHM might be the option?!?

Today I had a hard day! Today more than in any other day I felt like I should be a stay at home mum or at least a mum that is working part time. I miss spending time with my daughter and be there for her when she needs me!

At the moment I am a WORKING MUM and I spend 10 hours a day away from my daughter. I missed her first step, I missed her first real word and she called her key worker name before she call me mummy. Really..she still calls me "nany".....only when she really needs something from me she calls me "mama" or "mum".

My daughter was ill today...she has a bit of a cold and fever...really she's been a bit Ill for the last couple of days...but this morning I found it very difficult to go to work...I just wanted to stay at home with my baby and care for her! But hubby man me up and told me that my boogie is fine and she will be fine as soon as soon as she will be at nursery. Unfortunately she developed fever so at around 2 o'clock I comeback home anyway. I really enjoyed holding my baby while she was asleep and just looking at her. I couldn't really fall asleep either even though I am really tired as I only slept around 3 hours.

Having a job and a career at the moment doesn't make me happier. At the moment I NEED to work! There is no other way for us as if I will not work will mean that we will never be able to save any money and achieve our dream...to move back to Romania so we need to sacrifice....

I am torn as I feel like there is no escape on the other side of the door and this makes me feel upset and depressed! I miss my daughter more and more each day!

One thing I can do is make the most of our mornings and evenings and weekends! I love my daughter so much and I will do anything I can to make her a happy child!

The below picture is from the hospital...boogie had only a couple of hours...

Tech and boogie

Boogie loves my iPhone and my iPad! Sometimes I am afraid that she will damage them as she is only 32 months old but she is great at using the applications and YouTube!
Below I present you one of the occasions when boogie is using my iPad to play her nursery songs!

Christmas Music

Do you sing Christmas songs for your kids? I sing Romanian Christmas songs for my daughter but with the English songs I need help because as much as I try I don't know them all... The lovely lady from Music For Baby sent me this fantastic cd with Christmas songs in english. Boogie loves music and she loves this cd as well! And she sings them as well because at nursery they are teaching them these songs! And I am thankful because my boogie and I can have fun singing these Christmas songs! And I love having fun with my little biggie!
"BABY SING CHRISTMAS" is out now! So you can buy it and give it as a present to your kids or to yourself. It is available to buy from www.musicforbaby.co.uk website.
Baby Sing Christmas was born from a love of real music with the aim to create an album that is not overproduced with synthetic sounds but with real vocals and instruments enabling baby and the whole family to enjoy at this traditional time of year. It is charmingly arranged for guitar and voice evoking that warm, intimate, cosy, yet magical feel that embodies Christmas. The performances are exquisite, making this is an album of the caliber that every baby deserves – and there are even a few extra bonus tracks with additional vocals at the end.

These are the songs that you can find on the CD:

Let it Snow – It’s the Most Wonderful Time Of The Year – Away In A Manger – Winter Wonderland – Santa Claus Is Coming To Town – All I Want For Christmas Is You – Silent Night – Here Comes Santa Claus – O Christmas Tree – Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer – Jingle Bells – Frosty The Snowman – We Wish You A Merry Christmas
Bonus Tracks (remixes with additional vocals)
Here Comes Santa Claus – All I Want For Christmas Is You – Silent Night – Jingle Bells – We Wish You A Merry Christmas

So it's quite wonderful isn't it? Lots of beautiful to keep you and your baby cheery all the way through Christmas!

What is normal?!?!

While reading Paulo Coelho's book "The winner stands alone" I came up with the idea of writing this post.
Do you consider yourself a normal person? If you do what make you NORMAL in your eyes? What is normal for one can be not normal for someone else... The things that make me normal make me feel human in one or another.
According to the dictionary NORMAL is "the usual, the average". This adjective my upset some...but I think of myself a NORMAL person.
So here is me sharing with you the things that make me (feel) NORMAL:
- I wake up every morning to the sound of my alarm clock/phone;
- I work 9-5 and I have an office job;
- I travel to work by tube,bus or train - depends on the day and it takes me around an hour to get there and another hour back;
- I got married first and then I had a child;
- I have family - mum, father and daughter;
- I suffer of PND- even though i am recovering slowly;
- I don't have a cleaner that helps me around the house-I can't afford it and the place I live in is way to small to require one;
- Trying to lose weight all the time but failing badly every time;
- I weigh myself every morning and I get depressed every morning because of it;
- I believe that other people are always better than me - more successful ,better looking , more capable, richer, more intelligent;
- I never laugh to loud in a restaurant as I fear that people will look at me;
- I hate the crowds - I grow up in a small city;
- I watch Tv every night and always the same programs;
- I love cooking and eating at the same table with my family at least once a week - usually on Sunday's;
- I make love to my husband in average 4-5 times a month;
- going out for dinner or for a coffee as now I am a mum and can't to late nights or get drunk;
- going shopping every Saturday as there is no time in any other day;
And I think that's it for now...

If you read this post I would love to hear back from you and if you would like to write a post about what makes you normal please let me know and I will come and check it out on your blog if you have one.

Lots of love,
The NORMAL me
Xxx

PS: Now because I want to make you laugh watch the below video with Ozzy describing what is NORMAL. (I hope is not interpreted as advert because I just found it on YouTube)

Eat veg' with Tasty Tunes

Ella's Kitchen products always been at a great value in my family! Boogie enjoyed eating them and I was very happy that she did because I believe in their products and that mean that my baby will eat some vegetables. The fact that the vegetables and fruits were coming in a pouch was even better as It mean that my baby will get to eat good food on the go!
I did write about Ella's Kitchen before but when I received an email from lovely Kate asking me to spread the word about their new collaboration with Rachel Stevens I was very excited!
Ella's Kitchen teamed up with celebrity mum Rachel Stevens to record an album named "Tasty Tunes" to encourage little ones to eat healthily.

The songs are free for parents to download and sing along to via Ella's Kitchen website ellaskitchen.co.uk. To encourage parents to bring healthy food off the plate and into the playroom, baby food company Ella’s Kitchen has signed up singer and new mum, Rachel Stevens to create ‘Tasty Tunes’ – a FREE to download collection of families’ favourite nursery rhymes, with a new fruit and veg inspired twist. Tracks include new versions of ‘Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star’, ‘Hokey-Cokey’, and ‘Old McDonald Had A Farm’.

Rachel Stevens, mum of one, launched her album in a one-off gig just for toddlers at the Monkey Puzzle Nursery in Streatham – the kids loved the songs and playing with the fruit and vegetables! I enclosed a few pictures below that we're sent to me by Kate, at Ella's Kitchen.

Paul Lindley, Ella’s Dad and founder of Ella’s Kitchen, comments: “Ella’s Kitchen is passionate about helping babies and toddlers eat healthier food. With the worrying figure that less than one in five kids are eating their five-a-day, we partnered with the University of Reading to conduct research into children’s eating behaviour and created the Tasty Tunes collection with Rachel Stevens. We hope this initiative will encourage more kids to eat their veg, creating healthy eating habits that last a lifetime.”

The academic study, commissioned by baby and toddler food experts Ella’s Kitchen, explored the motivations behind healthy eating in toddlers aged 12 – 36 months on the back of the finding that only 16% of under-fives eat their recommended five-a-day. The new study found that toddlers who experienced new vegetables through sight, smell, sound and touch before tasting were more willing to eat them. Previous research has shown that children need to try a new or initially disliked food up to 15 times before liking it, but 80% of parents give up after just three or four attempts showing the need for new tactics to help parents persevere.
The research recommends using all the senses through stimulating play such as hearing stories, singing songs and hands on exploration in order to further encourage children to try new food. The activities were based on types of play that would commonly take place at home or in nursery and included: looking at the shape, size and colour of the food when it was cut open; touching, squeezing stroking, and smelling it when cooked; singing a song about the food using a recognisable tune; and hearing a story about the food. The results also showed that parents shouldn’t be afraid to introduce more unusual foods from a young age as the activities had the most positive impact on the toddlers when trying more adventurous foods such as sweet dried figs, sweet potato and broad beans.

So if this seems like a good idea for you go over Ella's Kitchen Website and download these songs for FREE. My daughter adores the new versions and she even sings at the same time.

Would be lovely to hear what you think as well so please comment below if you feel like it!

My love for Paulo Coelho books

I discovered Paulo Coelho books when I was a teenager. I fell in love straight away of his first book "The Alchemist". Back then I read the book in Romanian and finished reading it in less than a week. The book is written so well and I found myself identifying with the main character. While I was reading the book my heart was pounding and words like the ones below will stay in my heart forever:

“And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”
“So, I love you because the entire universe conspired to help me find you.”
“Waiting hurts. Forgetting hurts. But not knowing which decision to take is the worst of suffering.”
“The secret of life, though, is to fall seven times and to get up eight times.”
“When we love, we always strive to become better than we are. When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too.”
“Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams, because every second of the search is a second's encounter with God and with eternity.”

The following years I discovered his other books like "Eleven Minutes", "Veronica decides to Die", "The Valkyries", "The Fifth Mountain", "The Zahir" ,"The devil and miss Prym", "Brida", "The witch of Portobello" and the list could continue. I used to go to the library to borrow them as student I didn't have enough money to buy them all.

When I came to England however I promised myself that I am going to buy and read all his books. And I did! Now I am reading one of Paulo Coelho's latest books "The winner stands alone" and even If I only read only 56 pages into the story I am again surprised of how new and exciting this book is!

I even have a quote for you:
"...various biological studies have shown that if a frog is placed in a container along with water from its own pond,it will remain there,utterly still,while the water is slowly heated up. The frog doesn't react to the gradual increase in temperature, to the changes in its environment, and when the water reaches boiling point, the frog dies, fat and happy.
On the other hand, if a frog is thrown into a container full of already boiling water, it will jump straight out again, scalded,but alive!"

What do you think of it? I know it might be as deep but I like this comparison with being in a relationship/marriage that fails....

It will probably not be the last time I write about my love for Paulo Coelho books. He has his own website where you can check and buy his books http://paulocoelho.com/en/.

Tinga Tinga Tales Application

Apps!!! We love them and the iPad and iPhones that we posses! This is why when Entertainment One offers to send me one of their new applications for review I will never say NO!
On 18th November – Leading interactive games publisher P2 Games announced that the first ever app based on the popular CBeebies pre-school show, Tinga Tinga Tales, is now available on the App Store. With this new app, children can interact with their favourite animal characters in the safari world of Tinga Tinga Tales on iPad, iPhone or iPod touch.

Bursting with vibrant art and sounds, Tinga Tinga Tales includes 9 fun mini-games with three difficulty settings so children can have fun while learning at their own pace. This application is aimed for 3-6 year olds so its not quite there for my little one. She is only 32 months old now. Boogie tried the application but to tell you the truth she was not that interested in it as she never watched Tinga Tinga Tales before. In my opinion this application is quite interactive and we are sure that boogie will love it later on. There is quite a wide variety of games Which is quite good for the price £1.49.

Nine mini-games include:

• MONKEY’S MANGOES - Monkey loves mangoes! Help him avoid the green mangoes and catch the ripe orange ones before they fall to the ground.

• YUMMY FLIES! - Tap on the flowers to help Chameleon catch as many flies as possible to eat.

• CLEVER CHAMELEON - Help Chameleon disappear by tapping on the correct pattern that matches his surroundings.

• SNAPPY CROC - Crocodile is trying to spoil Hippo's swim. Tap on his head before he disappears.

• FIND LIZARD - Lizard always hides under rocks. Tap on the right rock to find him in a classic game of hide and seek.

• GREEDY TORTOISE! – Guide Tortoise to his heavenly feast in the clouds, but watch out for the birds!

• I’M NOT A ROCK! - Tortoise is trying to cross the land of TingaTinga, but other animals mistake him for a rock! He needs help!

• ANIMAL MISMATCH – The animals are all jumbled! Slide the animal parts in place to create your favourite Tinga Tinga Tales characters.

• BATH TIME! - Help Elephant wash the dusty animals clean.

The Tinga Tinga Tales App is now available for £1.49 from the App Store on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch or at www.itunes.com/appstore.

Christmas Fantastic Tableware

        I love Christmas! Do you love Christmas?
I love Christmas even more now because i am a mum and i have my own family now though!
Christmas always been my favorite family celebration! I grow up in quite a traditional orthodox family and Christmas in my parents house was always special! It still is now as well!
I remember that they always try to give us presents for Christmas even though sometimes they didn't have a lot of money! So now i am a mum i am trying to do the same for my daughter!

With only 35 days to go to Christmas i am already thinking of it!
What presents should i buy? Where should we go for Christmas? What are we cooking for Christmas?
Are we going to have turkey or pork like it is romanian traditionally?
What can i do to make my house look more festive?
You see we live in one bedroom apartment and we dont have enough space for a big Christmas tree(i wish we had) but i am going to try to make it as beautiful as i can!
This is why i decided that i will use a lot of red when i will decorate Christmas dinner table!

Doesn't look fantastic? I love it!
Christmas is red isn't it?

If you like the table decorations above you can find them on Next Website. in red, gold and silver!
Make your table festive as well as the tree!
I will probably only have a very small artificial Christmas tree as well.

I want to see Santa!

When I was a child one of our neighbours used to get dressed as Santa and come over on the 24th Of December Christmas Eve with presents for my sister and I.
Today my hubby, boogie and I live in London and there's no neighbour to return the favour to my parents.
But here there are places we can take boogie to meet Santa! She did meet Santa last year at nursery but this was a daddy Santa and not a very good Santa either! Boogie was quite young as well.
I still wonder if we should lie her about the existence of Santa or not!?! But while we are thinking if to do it or not...we promised that will take boogie to see Santa to one of the places were Santa can be found this year.
Thanks to my copy of Baby London I found out that there are quite a few nice places to go!

1. The Enchanting Christmas House - is situated in Islington so for north Londoners is just a "step" away. The closest tube to get there is Angel but for the full address please visit their website. Each room in the Enchanting house is a new adventure for the little ones: Garden of Winter Wonder, Gingerbread Kitchen , Mrs Claus's sitting room, The busy Elves Workshop and let's not forget Santa's Grotto. They promise that meeting Santa there will be a calm and happy experience. This fabulous place will be open from 26th of November to 24th of December and they advise to book before you go. Prices however are quite high and for a family of four you get to take out of your pocket £129.
2. For a Victorian Father Christmas visit the Museum of London . This is quite cheap option as it only costs £5 to visit and to receive a gift. You can take the little ones to have a look around the museum and then to meet Santa and have a chat. They have a photographer on hand to take photos if you wish but this will cost extra. Santa will be there from 10-23 December.
3. London Wetland Centre in Barnes promises that Santa is a friendly and jolly One and the most convincing you will ever meet. The grotto is set in a warm and cosy log cabin. They say is like being in the Canadian Rockies! Santa will be there only on 10th and 11th if December so make sure you remember is this is your chosen place. It will only cost you £5 to meet Santa it this will be on top of your Wetlands Centre entry.
4. To meet Santa for free you can just visit Hyde Park's Winter Wonderland. We visited Winter Wonderland and boogie loved it! The place is huge but we didn't get to see Santa because he was on lunch. As it is free to meet Santa you might have to wait a while to meet him as it functions on a first-come-first-served system. Winter Wonderland opens today on 18th of November and is open until the 3rd of January! It is guaranteed that you will spend quite a bit of time at Winter Wonderland as there will be lots of activities and shops for everybody. Parents will love it to as they can have a cup of yummy mulled wine while entertaining their kids.
5. Visit Betty Blythe's Tea Room if you want to take your children to a nice and elegant place. This is a vintage shop that sells wonderful tees and yummy scones or so they say. Santa will be here only for one day-Saturday the 17th of December and for a family visit with two children you get to spend £16.50.
6. For a magical place that feels more like winter and Christmas visit Lapland UK. Even though is situated in South London in Kent's Bewl Water the organisers created a magical place that has snow, reindeer and secret tree-lined pathways leading to Father Christmas woodland cabin. Instead of spending an exorbitant amount of money to go to the real Lapland pay from £44.59 - £62.50 to visit the UK Lapland. This place will be open between 26 November - 24 December and if you visit you can have a try with toy-making in the Elves workshop and meet Mother Chirstmas in her kitchen. You can even meet huskies and reindeers and post a letter to the North Pole for Santa. Please make sure you will visit their website however as you need to book before you visit!

Whatever you are choosing to take your children make sure you and your family will have fun!

2 year old-evaluation!!???

Well now..tomorrow I have a meeting with boogie's key worker at nursery! This kind of meeting happens twice a year or so! The purpose is to discuss and evaluate boogie's development. Last week I received this big RED folder that contains all my daughter's information since her first day in nursery!

This folder contains pictures and commentaries about Boogie's development. They analyse her personality and her creativity, her motor skills and they keep a track of how good she is with numeracy and problem solving etc.

Can you believe that we are actually talking about a 2 and half year old!?!?

Until now I found the meetings with boogie's key worker quite funny because she was way too young to fell concerned about any of the above aspects. But the other week I read Cranky Monkeys blog and was very surprise to see the way English School looks at things. What I mean is that I am not sure if I am prepared for all there is to come. I'm not sure if I am prepared to have my baby analysed by teachers! I love my baby the way she is and I believe that she is way more intelligent than I use to be! I mean she is 2 and a half!
She can number up to 12 and that is not because we forced her! She just loves to count the steps in our building. Yes they are exactly 12 steps so this is why she knows how. I think I learn to number up to 10 when I was 6 years old. I have no idea how other two year old kids are and have no interest to see how others are! My daughter Is very good at puzzles and jigsaws! Last weekend she solved a puzzle of 30 pieces. I think it was made to be for kids age 3+ and she solved it all by herself without any help from mummy and daddy and it was brand new! I am proud she is smart at certain things!

Now reading the commentaries in this folder I see things that I like and things that I don't like. For some reason I am getting a bit disappointed if certain points are not circled as not achieved! For example this step was not circled as achieved: "Are aware that some actions can hurt and harm others". Should I bother or is she too young for that?!? She says "sorry" if I tell her that she hurt me by hitting me with her little feet while playing...so do I need to ask her for more?

On the other hand I am happy to see comments from her key worker that say:" Boogie displays tremendous creative skills. She draws , paint, sticks, glues very neatly with a lot of care and enthusiasm. She enjoys art and craft work." or "She is a patient and caring child. She can work independently. She makes friends with all,and she listens and shares. She follows instructions and works with love. She just needs to build her confidence."

I think all in all I have a bright and intelligent daughter and I am very proud to be her mummy!!!

Do you love mummy?

I was very happy to come home early tonight! I was even more happy to hug and kiss my lovely daughter!

I gave her a really big HUG and told her:
"Kara mummy loves you very much!"
And then she just looked at me...
You see she usually says:
"Love you too!"
Because she didn't I went on and asked her:
"Kara do you love mummy?"
But Kara said looking at me strangely:
"No!"
To which I asked "Why not then?"
Kara:"Ah.....I want sweets!"

You see we've been trying to keep her off sweets and give to her only as a reward for being a good girl. I guess for a two year old LOVE is measured in the amount of sweets she receives from her mummy!

A Romanian folk tale "Five loaves"

On this blog I posted Romanian pictures, Romanian recipes and Romanian superstitions but I missed sharing with you my lovely readers some of the Romanian folk tales.
This story that I am going to write down for belongs two Ion Creanga. He is one of the greatest Romanian writers and a true storyteller. He was born in 1837 in a village of white-washed houses,high in the Carpathian mountains surrounded by dense forests. He spent a happy childhood there. His folk tales gives us an insight into life in the village he grew up in and as you will see in the below tale, they often have an universal moral. Five Loaves is such a folktale in which you might find some present-day validity. It will be lovely to read it to your kids anyway.
So the story goes like that:

Once upon a time, two men were travelling together along a road one summer day. One had three loaves of bread in his sack,the other,two. After some time they felt hungry and stopped in the shade of a weeping willow next to a water well. Each took the bread out of his sack, and so as to to enjoy their meal more, they sat to eat together.
Just as they were taking the bread from their sacks, a third traveller, unknown to them, overtook them and stopping beside them, bade them good day. He then asked to share their food, as he was very hungry, had no provisions, and there was no place to buy anything.
"Come, good man! Share our hospitality" said the first two travellers to the stranger, "for,thank God,where two can eat,there is always enough for a third.
The stranger,being very hungry he did not wait to be asked twice, but sat by the other two and all three ate dry bread and drank water from the well, for there was nothing else to drink. And the free of them ate and ate and ate, until the five loaves were all eaten,as if they had never been there at all.
When they had finished, the stranger took five coins from his purse and gave them to the man that had three loaves saying: " Good fellows! Please accept this small token of my gratitude, for you have indeed been friends. Further on, you can buy yourselves a glass of wine each, or do whatever you please with the money. I am unable to thank you for the kindness you have shown to me, for I was nearly blind with hunger."
The two travellers hesitated before accepting the money, but after a good deal of insistence on the third part they accepted. Then, a little later, the stranger said goodbye to the others, and continued on his way.
The two companions stayed a little longer in the shade of the willow to rest their bones. Then,having talked about one thing and another, the one who had three loaves gave two coins to the one that had two loaves, saying: "Here,brother!This is your share. Do what you like with it. You had two loaves so you ought to have two coins. For myself, I am keeping three coins, for I had three loaves the same size as yours as you know."
"How do you figure that?" said the other disparagingly. "Why only two coins and note two and a half each? The man was not obliges to give us anything. Then what would have happened?"
"What would have happened?" replied his companion. "I would have been in the next world for my three loaves and you for your two - and that's all. But now, the bread has been paid for by the stranger, and we have money in our purses;I with my three coins and you with your two; each according to the number of loaves we had. I don't see how the money could possibly be more fairly divided."
"Oh now my friend!" said the one with the two loaves. "I don't agree with your judgement.Let us take the matter to court,and will stick to whatever the judge decides."
"Alright,come along,then. To the court," said the other "if you are not content. I am sure the judge will agree with me, although I never been to a court of law in my life."
So off they went,decided to take their quarrel to the law. And when they came to a place where was a courthouse, they went before the judge and tell their story, each giving their own version. The judge,after hearing their case attentively, ask the owner of two loaves: "So you are not content with your share of money,my man?"
"No, Your Honor," said the discontented one. "We had no intention of taking the money of the stranger for the bread we gave him; but as it turns out he gave us some, we should have divided it equally. That is my idea on what is just."
"If it's a question of justice" said the judge, "then be good enough to return a coin to your companion."
"Well,that astonishes me you Honor," said the discontented one. "I came here to see justice done, and I find that your Honor, who knows the law, is making me even more puzzled. If the last judgement is to be like that, then Heaven help us!"
"So it seems to you," the judge said quietly, "but you will see that is not the case. Did you have two leaves?"
"Yes. I had two"
"Did your companion had three loaves?"
"Yes. He had three."
"Just a moment ago you told me that you all ate the same amount;is that right?"
"That is right your Honor"
"Good. Now let us get it all clear, so we might know how much bread each of you ate: let us say that each loaf was divided into three equal parts,how many pieces did you have,for you had two loaves to begin with?"
"I had six pieces,your Honor"
"And you companion,who had three loaves to begin with?"
"He had nice pieces,your Honor."
"Now how many does that make?Nine and six?"
"Fifteen pieces, your Honor"
"How many men ate those fifteen pieces of bread?"
"Three men,your Honor."
"Now,try to remember how many pieces you had."
"Six,you honour."
"But,did you eat six?"
"Five,your Honor."
"And how may were left over?"
"Only one pice, your Honor."
"Do you remember how many pieces your companion had?"
"Nine, your Honor."
"And how many did he eat?"
"Five, the same as I did."
"And how many had he left?"
"Four,your Honor."
"Good! Now let us get this straight. You mean that you had only one piece left over, while your companion had four pieces left; now one piece for your and four pieces from your friend's make five pieces together?"
"Exactly five, your Honor."
"Is it true that the stranger ate those five pieces and gave you five pennies for them?"
"Yes,that is so,your Honor."
"So only one coin was due you for you had only one piece left over, and it was just the same as selling it for one coin. As for your friend, he ought to have four coins because he had four pieces left over. So now, be so good as to return one coin to your companion. And if you feel that that is unjust then go to God and see if He will make a different judgement."
The owner of the two leaves, seeing there was no other solution, gave back a penny to his companion, very reluctantly, thanked the judge and went off blushing.
The owner of the three loaves, however, astonished at the verdict, thanked the judge and wet off saying:
"If there were judges like that everywhere who do not stand nonsense, then those who are in the wrong would never appeal to the law. And the so-called lawyers, having no longer any means of making a living from heir talking, would either do an honest job of work, or else die of hunger. And good people would live in piece!"

Chocolate chip muffins

Hubby bought me this recipe book called "Muffins and Bakes" ages ago but yesterday I used it for the first time.
So I decided to bake some muffins for my lovely both hubby and boogie! They were out in the park so I thought a nice warm muffin will be a warm surprise!

Firstly for this recipe you will need the below ingredients:
3tbsp soft margarine
200gr caster sugar
2 large eggs
150 ml of whole natural yoghurt
5 tbsp milk
300 gr of plain flour
1tsp bicarbonate of soda
115 gr plain chocolate chips

Line up a 12 cup muffin pan with muffin cases and put on the side.

In a bowl put the margarine and the sugar and mix and beat with a wooden spoon until is all light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, yoghurt and milk until all combined.
Stir in the flour and the bicarbonate of soda as well and again stir until all blended.
At the end stir in the chocolate chips and then when you are happy separate/divide the mixture between the paper cases and bake In a preheated oven at 200 degrees Celsius. Keep in oven for 25 minutes or until risen and golden.
Remove the muffins from the oven and cool in the pan for 5 minutes then place on a wire rack to cool completely.

Muffins come out to be really fluffy and hubby said that there are my best ever muffins!

10 Things i hate my hubby for...

   I should probably stop here....and just delete this post now before i even start writing it...but well i am sure that hubby will not mind me writing it so here it comes....

Firstly i need to tell you that i truly love my husband lots and lots but sometimes he just pisses me off with the things he is doing! Bless him...sometimes is just because he just wishes to help me around the house but as men usually do sometimes is just not enough for us nasty women! Ha ha

I hate when:
  • My husband takes care of putting all dirty dishes in the dishwasher by emptying them from the sink but never actually cleans the sink or around it - he always leaves a really bad mess around it;
  • I need to complain about the fact that i always vacuum before he actually picks it up and starts doing it-usually i do it before he even thinks about it;
  • He feels up the washing machine with clothes and sets it up but always forgets to empty it;if i just wait to see how long they will stay there it could take 24 hours until he realizes;
  • He takes the washing of the line and folds it (bless him) but just leaves everything on the bed and waits for me to put them in the wardrobe;
  • He is looking for a certain something everywhere and never asks me about it-in the end he gets annoyed but all this time "the things" was just sitting next to him;
  • He says "Don't worry i will clean the bathroom" but days are going by and i am still the one that does it;
  • He piles his footwear on top of my footwear-his works is a lot messier than mine and i just don't like when he does it;
  • He says "i still love you" when i complain about the fact that i put too many kilos on;
  • He spoils boogie too much and buys her sweet while they are out shopping-and that usually happens when i am waiting for them with lunch-so of course she will not eat her lunch;
  • He makes a wind in bed-i feel sick and every thought of romance just goes out of the door.
Really as i said before i love him a lot and we married for love but like in any marriage sometimes he can piss me off! Ha ha ha

Hre is a picture with him as well!

What do you think? Do you have any hates to share?

Up and down!Changes?

So...this is the first time I'm answering a BritMums post prompt. When I read the email about it I wasn't sure if I am going to write about the changes in my life or not but somehow after the day I had today i felt that I had to do it! I just need to talk about it as otherwise I feel that I might just to the loons about it! Well I'm not even sure I am serious about it!
The prompt talks about changes in the last year but I feel like talking about changes in the last 5 years...is that wrong?
Yes the major change in my life happen 5 years ago when I got married and moved to London. It was hard to adapt as suddenly from speaking most of my day in Romanian I had to speak English all the time. Firstly with my hubby and then for work. It was hard at the beginning but I got used to it. It was easier probably because I work in a multi-language company. Not sure if that word even exist?!?
Then 2 years down the line I gave birth to my beautiful multilingual daughter! I was so happy to hold her in my arms and care for her. Again I found that difficult as no help was around besides my lovely hubby but soon I got the hang of it: breast feeding and implementing of a routine were my struggles but when I think about it now it all looks so easy! Then 9 months later I had to go back to work as we were running out of money and mentally I really needed to do have some adult conversations. Something that it wasn't breast feeding,nappies, naps , bottle feeding and etc. you know the usual things that mummy friends are talking about. But soon enough I started to so miss that! Most of all I missed the time I use to spend with my daughter! Even though she use to drive me crazy with her crying sometimes...but that happens so soon I learned that I wasn't the only one that sometimes was feeling overwhelmed. All this time trying to be the perfect mother and then I had an illumination...I will never be the perfect mum! But I will always be my daughters mum and and even though I might not be perfect...I will try to be understanding, to offer my daughter everything she wishes for and to give her lots and lots of love!

Well but now let's comeback to this year! This year we start trying for a new baby! As the first time I got pregnant so fast thought it will be the same this time as well! Well...NO! And we've been trying and trying for almost a year now! I am anxious every time my period is due and I really hope that it will not come! I really hope that I'm going to be pregnant again! Oh...I really miss...I really miss being a full time mummy! Somehow the fact that I work and the fact that I'm away from my little one 10 hours a day somehow doesn't qualify me to be a full and complete MUM! Is it wrong for me to feel that?!?
A few weeks ago when I was on holiday work announced me that we will have some staff cuts at work...then I went through all the feelings in the world...anger,fear,scare, that I might lose my job...but then hope came into it! Somehow I was hoping that I will be left without o job! Part of me anyway! I was hoping that maybe this will push me to actually try and change something in my life! Try and find a part time job or maybe move back home to Romania and spend more time with my daughter and with my mum and dad! But that I mean working part time will not work because we need the money so I need a full time job and going home will not work as we have no arrange future there yet. If I will move It will just be me and boogie and daddy will have to stay and earn money in his home country England! You see that will not be right! It will just not be right for my boogie! It might mean that if we do the move and sacrifice in a couple of years we will be back together and have the perfect life we've been talking about! But I am just not ready yet...
Since we were left so few at work...it's busier and busier! Now I work in the centre and I hate the crowd of people there! Keep thinking that I should think about it as a good thing...I still have a job and my bosses really appreciate what I do; i am learning new interesting things that will probably help me later to find a better and more paid job! Who know?!? Today I had I hard day, tomorrow it might be better...but I still find it hard get out of this circle of self in-satisfaction?!
Why can I not just make the changes that will probably make me happier forever?!?
But life is a struggle so I guess I will somehow and someday get use to it!

iPads or not for toddlers????

iPad or not for my two year old? Before my birthday this year I didn't have an iPad so this post would not exist if right now if I did not have an iPad! Ok then maybe I should try and stop repeating myself.

My dear hubby gave me an iPad as a present for our anniversary and birthday. It had to be a combined present as these iPads are bloody expensive! As soon as he gave it to me - even though I really wanted one - I said to him to take it back! I love my iPad now and I use it every evening! It's so much easier to use than a laptop. And the one I have it's bloody heavy and my legs are getting hot if I spend too long on it!

Anyway to comeback at the subject....is it ok for a 2 year old to use an iPad to play? I let my daughter play on the iPad and to watch cartoons sometimes... I must say she watches cartoon on the iPad when we go on a road trip - it just keeps her busy. You can imagine how bored she can get after spending 5 hours in the car on the way to Leeds. We do stop from toilet and shopping breaks though...

The things she plays on the iPad are generally jigsaws and puzzles. Some of them are on my iPhone as well so she use to use them before. Everybody that knows Kara knows that she loves puzzles! She is making proper puzzles but she is doing application puzzles as well. It's just amazing how fast that little finger of hers moves on the screen! And I think it actually develops her intelligence...

But...when I read such articles online I get second thoughts...
The Gazette and ZDnet
Hm...do I really bribe my daughter with the iPad? No! She is demanding it to play puzzles on it! I might be wrong but I am quite proud when she succeeds to complete them with no help! And that happens 90% of the time! Because I have an iPad and because I let her use it...my daughter doesn't spend enough time outside playing? Well that doesn't happen either! Every Saturday we take her swimming in the morning and park in the afternoon! Every Sunday we go for a trip out in the town, or to a farm or to some English Heritage place! She is only 2 and a half but she is travelling everywhere. Sometimes hubby and I wonder: why do we bother going out so much? We should take her out to the park and swimming and don't spend too much money on other things! She will not remember when she will grow up as she is only 2 and a half?!? Maybe I am nuts but I think she will..and if not she will see the pictures later and she would love the fact that her parents took her out!

So yes I think that the fact I let my daughter watch some cartoons and make puzzles on my iPad will not harm her! As long as the balance between physical activities and iPad is kept there not harm!!!

The 10 Commandments of Healthy Eating for Parents

This is just a general guideline that I use because when I was a child my parents use to tell me that I couldn't get up from the table until I will finish everything from my plate. When I had boogie I promise myself that I will never do that and other things that you will find below.

1. You should never force, bribe or coerce thy child to eat.
2. You should set a good example by eating at least five fruits and vegetables, three whole grain products, and three dairy servings per day thyself.
3. You should make mealtimes pleasant.
4. You should encourage your child to help in meal planning, preparation, and cleanup.
5. You should back off when mealtime becomes a power struggle.
6. You should accept food "binges" as phases that will eventually pass.
7. You should accept the fact that your child is an individual and that he will dislike certain foods (and there may be many!).
8. You should not give up on introducing new foods. Sometimes takes ten tries to get a child to accept a food.
9. Use this division of responsibility for eating: As the parent, you are responsible for deciding when and what to serve. Your child is responsible for deciding how much (if any) will be eaten.
10. You should give your child a multivitamin-mineral supplement if he is a picky eater.

Let me know what you think of it or if you have anything to add....

Monday review-Ben and Holly's Little Kingdom Little Library

     My daughter loves books and when i received this copy for review from Entertainment One, she was absolutely delighted! We previously review the Ben and Hollie DVD on this blog.

This lovely little board book box-set is the perfect introduction to the magical land of the Little Kingdom, where flowers and grasses rise above the tallest towers.There are 6 different books for  Ben Elf, Princess Holly and all their enchanting friends and family. They are perfect for little hands and they do not take a lot of space so your little one can carry in their bag. I find that these little books are quite good when my daughter is "stuck" like she says in her car seat and she needs to be entertained! She is so funny reading the books at 2 and a half.

  She loves the books and you can see her playing with them by making a puzzle and pretend to read!

If you would like to buy this Little Library for you little ones you can find it on Amazon or other good retailers and  for more information about Little Kingdom products you can visit their website or their facebook page.

                                        In change for this review Entertainment One offer the above Bookset as a gift.

Sad post

If you follow me on twitter you already know that today is been a sad day for me and my family.... My FIL had a stroke so we have to go up north to Leeds to see him. This trip might be the last we take to go and see him... He is 83 years old and unfortunately feeling very fragile and I am note sure how long he will go on for.
My BIL said that he has moments when he is unconscious. He is in the hospital obviously and we are afraid that if we don't get there in time we not get to say goodbye...

You might be reading this when I'm already on my way to Leeds or probably already there.
I just feel so sad...feeling sad because we might not get see him and say goodbye...I am sad because my daughter will never get to know her grandfather as well as she will get to know my parents...I am sad because if we will have more kids my future kids will never get to meet their grandfather...I am sad because he will never get to see them growing up...and sharing a wedding or birthdays with him...

Oh I feel like crying now....God Bless you Dad...and I really hope that you will be well at least just a bit longer...

Laugh or follow!!!

Superstitions...should we just laugh or should we follow?!?!? It's all up to you...
In Romania superstition are religiously followed by older people grandmothers and grandfathers.
Here is a list of superstitions transmitted from generation by generation in the Romanian tradition:
When a black cat crosses your path, you must take three steps forward and three steps backward before continuing.
When your horse is sick you should fill a bucket with water, drop a lit match into it, and give it to the animal to drink after family members have each drunk a glass.
Sitting on concrete or the ground will make you sterile.
Bathing with cold water can give you infections (especially pertains to women washing their genitals).
For children, placing a postcard or an image of a destination inside a backpack for a few moments with the zipper shut brings good fortune that he or she will eventually visit that place.
The young unmarried girls write their names on the sole of the bride’s shoes; the one whose name isn’t effaced will be the next to get married
The bride shouldn’t wear sandals because her luck will escape through her toes
The bride should not change her shoes during the wedding ceremony or party because she will also change her husband for another one
You should not give cutlery as a present to the newlyweds because these bring them sorrow and quarrels.
If you’re unmarried, you should never eat in the corner of the table because you will never get married
If you’re sewing something you’re dressed with, you should keep a string in your mouth so that you don’t sew your mind as well (that is, you become stupid)
You shouldn’t return once you’re leaving from or to somewhere because you will have bad luck
Those who kiss and hug over a threshold will be separating soon
If you spill your coffee it means you will receive money from somewhere
If you spill salt it means you will quarrel with someone
It is bad luck if if Your right hand is itchy (it means that you will have to give money to someone soon; if you scratch it or if you put it in your pocket you can send away the bad luck);
It is bad luck if You cut your hand nails on Sunday;
It is bad luck if Your left eye suddenly stirs (it means that you will soon get disappointed by someone or something)
It is bad luck if You leave your purse or back on the floor.
It is good luck if You get as a present a new pair of gloves;
It is good luck if You carry a coin in your pocket;
It is good luck if Your name has 7 letters;
It is good luck if You’re the seventh child in the family

Now if you are a Romanian and you read this you already know most of them! If I missed anything please let me know!
If you are not Romanian I would love to read your superstitions and see if any of the above match with the ones you have!

Be careful and watch out for the black cat!

I always follow this superstition!

My take on C-section

When I heard the news regarding the C-section I was a bit puzzled as I did not expect this to happen in UK.
They are saying the cost will be huge and that this will change the way NHS will work. I am sure of one thing! It will be a big change of course! For someone who had to have an emergency C-section after 44 hours of complete agony I think that this is a good step forward. They only considered me on establish labour only for 24 hours and they insisted that my hips are wide enough to have a natural birth-they already knew that my baby was quite big at 9lbs 11(4.430 kg). At least when boogie was in danger they decided that it was time for a c-section and they had to act fast. Thanks GOD they did! My boogie is now a healthy child now and hopefully she will have a life full of happiness.
No matter what Vanessa says in her article http://www.express.co.uk/ourcomments/view/280941/Vanessa-Feltz I know she is not entirely right. In my case C-section was not because I was TOO POSH TO PUSH it was a necessity and my pain and waiting could've been stopped by just giving me the choice to choose then what I wanted to do! Pointless to say I was for a natural birth! I wanted to give birth as natural as possible and my first option was a water birth-but from dreams to reality is a big difference.
As you know I'm Romanian and in Romania you can choose to have a C-section. You can actually choose the day you want to have the C-section done which can sound pretty weird for my British readers. But we should have an option to it! Maybe not from the beginning but if a woman is in agony she should have the right to requested and not wait for the mercy of the midwives and doctors like I did. Like Vanessa says a C-section is not a walk in the park! And I know so well that it isn't! I was in so much pain as my anesthetiser was wearing off, the first 12 hours after the operation were so hard! But the recovery after that didn't take longer and even if I have a scar on my belly I don't mind it! I love having it there!
One of the things that NICE could propose is for NHS to charge for any C-section operation that has no medical reasoning. This is what happens in Romania and if the Romanian women can afford it I don't see why not here? Like this NHS will earn some money as well if an operation is just done because....
If you are pregnant and thinking about it please read more information here on the NHS website http://www.nhs.uk/news/2011/10October/Pages/draft-nice-guidelines-elective-caesareans.aspx. But bear in mind this is not yet set in stone yet. I do hope that by the time I will have my second baby though it will be settled as I really don't want to go through all that pain and agony again! Sorry for being such a wimp but I do prefer a simple C-section instead of a hard labour and then C-section!
If you are thinking about it please do not be ashamed to admit it and support it! I will!

Potato and chicken Stew-Tocanita de cartofi si pui

        Now that i am back from holiday i have my head full of my mum's cooking(and belly). I think i put on around 3 kg while i was in Romania. Anyway i wanted to share with you one of my childhood favourite foods. My mum says that this dish was one of the only ones i used to eat! She use to sing me "Tocanita de cartofi toocanita de cartofi" just to make me eat it. So funny when i remember.
The recipe is very simple and fast to do.
You will need the below ingredients:

  • 5 chicken breast halves, boneless / skinless(you can use chicken tights as well like i did)
  • 2 kg potatoes
  • 12 garlic cloves
  • 300 g tomato paste
  • freshly chopped parsley
  • 2 Tbsp oil
  • Salt and pepper
Preparation:
Wash chicken breasts and drain on paper towels. Cut each chicken breast in 2-3 pieces. Finely chop garlic. Heat oil in a pot and add garlic. Cook for a minute on medium heat. Add chicken and fry until white, about 2-3 minutes on each side.In the meantime, peel, wash and cut potatoes into big chunks. Pour tomato paste over the chicken and season with salt and pepper.Add potatoes and pour enough water into the pot just until potatoes are covered.Cover and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until potatoes and chicken are tender, about 30 minutes.
Sprinkle some freshly chopped parsley, taste and adjust seasoning's if needed.
Pofta Buna!
