Wholegrain Goodness Challenge

I’m happy to let you all know that I’m taking part in the “Wholegrain Goodness Challenge” hosted by Mumsnet.
Here is what the team at Wholegrain Goodness have to say about this challenge:”Most of us know it’s important to eat at least five portions of fruit and veg every day, but what many of us don’t know is that we should be eating more wholegrain to keep us healthy too. Nutritionists around the world encourage eating at least three servings of wholegrain a day. But despite the nutritional benefits, national surveys show that 95% of UK adults fail to reach three servings a day. In fact, on average, most of us don’t even eat that in a week, and almost a third of us don’t eat any at all.”

I was delighted that Mumsnet team chose me to be one of the official mums taking part in this challenge!
The challenge is two weeks long starting today 21st of January until the 3rd of February. We are taking the pledge is to include wholegrain in one meal or snack for the family per day for two weeks, using a variety of wholegrain foods available:porridge, oats, wholemeal bread, brown rice, brown pasta, popcorn etc.

In all honesty the challenge to include one meal or snack a day will not be very difficult because as a family we already consume only wholemeal bread and while cooking we use brown pasta and rice. We started to do so around 3 and a half years ago when we introduce my eldest daughter to eating solids and we discover that white bread and produces of white flour were making her constipated.
We discovered that we loved eating Wholegrain too and we never looked back.
So the real challenge for us will be to include 3 servings of Wholegrain in our diet. So if we could have one serving each for breakfast, lunch and dinner or one snack that will be great! I’m aiming to have oats for breakfast, a sandwich with wholemeal bread or pitta for lunch and maybe some rice or pasta with whatever we decide we want for the evening.
Will you join me in this challenge?
Eating Wholegrain helps with digestion and with maintaining a healthy weight so I think it’s good for everybody to have at least one serving of Wholegrain a day if not more for more benefits why not check Wholegrain Goodness website?
If you have any advice or recipes I could try I would love to hear from you.
Fingers cross all will go well and keep reading the blog for more updates.
